What can micro-needling to brighten and tighten eyes?
Micro-needling can be used on lower eyelids and upper eyelids to rejuvenate the skin and cause tightening, improved tone and texture, firmness by stimulating collagen production. Due to the sensitive and thin nature of the eyelid skin, proper needle depth penetration is critical to avoid potential issues. There is some swelling due to the thin nature of the skin. Another benefit of the treatment is reducing hyper pigmentation and dark circles due to the collagen stimulation. It’s important to note that multiple treatments, usually 3-5 treatments done monthly are needed for optimal results.
Is it safe under eyes and on lids? What is the placement?
This treatment is safe as long as an expert physician with proper knowledge of the anatomy of the eyelid( vasculature, nerves, muscle) is essential with proper depth penetration of the needles.
What are the results? How long does it take to see results and how long do results last?
Results are seen as early as one month after the first treatment and due to the collagen stimulation, results last typically 2-3 years.
What is the procedure like? (How is it done, pain, risks, cost)?
Topical anesthesia is necessary for optimal comfortable treatment with typical recovery of a week due to swelling and possible bruising. Costs vary depending on the nature of treatment, size. A range is 500-1500 per treatment depending on whether upper and lower eyelids are treated.
Do you do with PRP? If so, why?
Adding PRP enhances results by speeding up recovery and hastening results. This is due to the nature of growth factors within the PRP. Addition of PRP increases the cost of the procedure.
Who is it good for?
Advantage of micro-needling is that it is color blind as unlike lasers, it can be used for all skin types including type VI African American skin.
Are the other procedures you use for ‘no-knife eye lifts’?
Other procedure used for no knife eyelid lifting include Picoway laser to reduce hyper pigmentation for light skin individuals, erbium or CO2 laser resurfacing for heavy wrinkling of lower and upper lids, chemical peeling for severe hyper pigmentation in dark skinned individuals, Ultherapy ( ultrasound energy) for skin tightening and brow lifting. These procedures are useful depending on the patient’s skin type, nature of their issue, severity of the problem and patient’s preference for no recovery or also willing to undergo major recovery for faster results.
